REGISTRY_ERROR with 0x00000051 STOP message

I hope somebody can help.

I have a Dell 2350 with Windows Xp and it crashed and now when I re-boot I get the blue screen with REGISTRY_ERROR and the STOP 0x00000051 message.

I can't get into RECOVERY CONSOLE as the same message appears and I can't re-load WINDOWS XP as the same message appears.

The only thing I can think of to do is to format the HD and start again.

ANY ideas?

Thanks VCraig

I have already tried this page and found that although they are similar, all the solutions on this page refer to WIndows 2000 and their best way of fixing it is to install a Service Pack, but as I said that is for Windows 2000.

I, unfortunately, am still stuck.

If you can think of anything else, please let me know

thanks again

Thanks JRosenfeld

How do I do that?

Would it not require me to log-on? If so I can't even get that far before the blue screen stops me.

Sorry, just seen the edit, no that doesn't work. As it goes into Windows, no matter what way, it crashes. I really need to alter the registry, but that may be possible.

Thanks VCraig again

I have tried all that and (without trying to sound all Princess Leia) this forum is " my only hope."

Thanks again to both of you

Hope you can help

If you haven't already done so, you could try a Google/search for the stop code as well as Microsoft.

Go to http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php and scroll down the list for your error stop code and follow the links noted. Hopefully you'll find what you need.

Description of safe mode boot

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q315222

Immediately after starting the PC press F8 repeatedly, that should bring you to a screen with options.

Thanks again JRosenfeld

I have tried Safe Mode, Safe Mode Command Prompt, all options on this menu and all options when I boot from my Windows XP disk. Every time I get the same blue screen with the same message.

Anyone got any other ideas

Thanks

I've no personal experience of this but it seems to me that you need another way to gain access to your PC without going near Windows - have you thought of something like Barts PE Builder ? I also believe that you can download a limited-time recovery tool for just these occasions from Winternals but their server appears to be down as I write this so I can't be sure of my facts on this one.

Perhaps somebody more knowledgable than me can confirm whether I'm right about Winternals or, if not, point you in the right direction?

If you've added any new hardeware remove it and then try the restore or last good configuration program.  Perhaps you've added something and you may need a BIOS update to support it.

Well Im not sure if this thread is closed or not. I am currently working on a solution with a friend and wanted to offer this info. This issue occurs the same as everyone else posts.. No lastknowngood no safemode. No recovery console or Repair.

Sooo after all the hardware diagnostic pass, which they seem to always do.. I decided to debug the hard drive. This is a process of wiping the drive clean. So any hint of a windows registry would be gone.

Heres the link.. The title of the article is How do I use the MS-DOS® debug script to remove my DOS or non-DOS partition?
just in case the link is not working right..

So yeah after this the OS installed fine... All the data was gone but the install of the OS worked... If this doesnt work for you I'd say its time to start replacing hardware...
