Reinstall IE7

My system is running very very slow. I've run virus checkers, and spyware programs, but nothing. My next guess is to reinstall IE7 or a previous version. Can I do this from my installation disks without having to reinstall the operating system?

I would download IE7 from Microsoft and install it that way. From your install CDs, IE7 is not a separate install.

I don't know if reinstalling IE7 will correct your slow running, but if you do I would suggest uninstalling before trying a reinstall. Here are the uninstall instructions -

Have you tried turning off the phishing filter under the Tools menu on the top. That made a big difference for me.

Try clicking Start then Run then type:  msconfig and then OK, from there click Startup on the top right

Disable all your Startup items EXCEPT your antivirus software and any printer stuff if you have one.....

If you dont know which item is which, double click the top right of the column header that says Command (double click the divider line) to expand where it is installed so you have a better idea of what it is

Also you can uninstall IE7 THEN goto Add/Remove Programs and then click Add/Remove Windows components on the left side, from there UNCheck Internet Explorer then click Next

From here, click Start then Run then type regedt32 and click OK

Only do this if you are comfortable by the way..

Click File then Export and name the file backup so you have a backup lol

(Only click the plus signs of the items listed next)
KEY_LOCAL MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Explorer
BrowserHelperObjects

From here ONLY delete the items shown UNDERNEATH that folder (they should all have just random numbers and letters)

These arent browserhelperobjects they are browserHINDERERobjects and mostly spyware........once youve done that go back to Add/Remove Windows Components and put a check next to Internet Explorer and click Next.....you now have a FRESH copy of IE6 and you can install IE7 without any spyware attached....

Hope this helps!

No need to reinstall.  :smileyhappy:

Click on Tools.  Click on Internet Options.  Click the Advanced Tab.  Click on Reset Internet Explorer Settings.

This resets Explorer to its original condition.  :smileysurprised:

I'm almost positive that if you uninstall Internet Explorer 7 from the control panel, "add / remove programs", it automatically will revert you back to Internet Explorer 6 without any intervention on the user's part. I.E. 6 will automatically be reinstalled.....

If I'm incorrect, somebody correct please....

By the way, charokee:
"These arent browserhelperobjects they are browserHINDERERobjects and mostly spyware" If that is the case, perhaps suggesting a good anti-spyware program would be in order rather than asking someone, who may not be comfortable with it, to edit the registry.

This is a pretty good scanner here. I've been running it for many months now and it gets new definition updating just about daily; sometimes twice a day too...
I got rid of Adaware and Spybot and use this one now. Free too; the best kind..lol....
