The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first, then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.
Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.
:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.
Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software Chipset or SMBus driver Processor Driver (if applicable) Video Audio (sound) Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse) Modem Network Card
Thank you for your advise. Actually I did follow the steps to install/update the system s/w, drives, and utilities. I did not find/download chipset drivers because I only sticked on my Service Tag's tab which only contents 11 downloadable drivers. In fact, there is another tab that has 71 drivers (for all D610 machines) which I did not pay attention. Now I found all chipset drivers, audio drivers, PCI driver, etc. After installing those drivers, the system is working as usual now.
I have the same problem, except without the drivers (network card) I cannot get on the internet, or my local network. Do I need to download these items to a thumb drive, or am I missing something?
Why don't you download the driver file with the machine you are currently using to post your question? Then - yes - transfer the file to a thumb drive or CD, take the file to your machine, and install the driver.
I had similar issue after re-installed Window XP on my Dell Inspiron 6000. I did download all the listed drivers for my computer from Dell driver downloads. After I finished installing Notebook System software, Chipset driver and video driver, I came to step 4 to install Network Interface Card. Three files downloaded for this step: Broadcom driver, Broadcom diagnostics utility and Broadcom html. The driver was installed successfully, but when I ran Diagnostics Utility installer R85258.exe, the exe started to extract files. A message popped out and says this is a multidisk zip file, asks me to insert last disk. There is only one file downloaded. I clicked "ok" and got error message that the driver is not installed correctly.
Do you guys have similar problem and how do you deal it ? Thanks for help.
