Try rolling back to Windows Media Player 9.  According to Microsoft, it can be done.  Then just reinstall it.

If you have installed any Hotfixes for WMP10 from MS updates, you will not be able to reinstall WMP10, without first removing those patches from Add/Remove programs. (make sure that 'Show Updates' is checked.) Once you have done this, just reinstall WMP10 over itself.

Hmm.... I have tried following your instructions to no avail. I am pretty sure this matters,

I have never had Windows Media Player 9 installed.

I am thinking about trying to uninstall somthing called the Windows Media Player Runtimes.

Its sounds like somthing that might royally screw up my computer if I do? Is this what they were talking about?

Try un/reinstalling windoes media player at control panel > add/remove programs > add/remove windows components. Just look for it there and uncheck. Restart. Then recheck it.

YES!! I have fixed this issue with my laptop, it was quite simple. The reason my media player wasn't playing any music, was due to my licenses in my DRM folder being corrupted. I fixed this issue, by deleting all the files in my license folder, of which being
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\

and window media player, automaticly downloaded and installed this security upgrade, and viola! a fixed media player, Thank you every one!
