Reinstallation problems

Had major problems with my Dell PC. Decided to wipe the HD and reinstall ME. Boot to DOS, do an fdisk, reformat the C drive, try to install on my CD Rom drive (E) and it keeps saying Not ready reading drive E. I'm not sure of the proper DOS commands. Got it to reinstall once, but after the installation when the ME splash screen comes up, the desktop looks like Windows 95 or 98 with pixel settings of 600x480. I can't make any changes to the monitor. I tried all the cds that came with the Dell and can't find anything with drivers for the monitor or other components. I just want to reinstall either ME or 98SE on the HD, then take it out to put into another computer, then put in a bigger HD in the Dell and install XP Pro. Can anyone help.

Working stiff,

It sounds like you need to install the drivers for your graphics adapter, as you are presently using the Windows default VGA driver. The appropriate driver can be obtained through the Downloads tab above this forum if it cannot be located on the CDs you received with the computer.

I agree I need the video drivers, but the present problem is, I'm stuck at the DOS prompt and can't seem to get the right command to start the installation off the System CD. I know I have to designate which drive my CD ROM is to initiate it, but I keep getting either "bad command" or "not able to read" the drive.

Working stiff,

Your initial post referred to the Windows splash screen which indicate that Windows was installed. If you are stuck at a DOS prompt are you trying to install Windows? If so, you need to follow the procedure here for ME or here for 98 SE.
