reinstalled windows 7 without using DataSafe

Hello! I just made a terrible mistake. I reinstalled windows 7 from a friend's dvd, thinking that my product key would work (i have it on the back of the laptop, and we both have windows 7 home premium x64) but it didn't. And when i was reinstalling it i noticed that i have a restore partition, but as i found out, i can't use DataSafe to return to my original windows, because it isn't listed when i press F8. Is there any way to use the restore partition, or what should i do about the product key so that i can use my computer again. Please help!

Hi, If you reinstalled Win 7 using a dvd, then you have damaged your restore partition, and the only way is to use a dvd. Also Dell keep its product key code under the battery in the battery compartment in laptops, it's on a blue sticker. You might have put in your service tag or express code by mistake.
