This is the free version, if you paid for the Plus version through Dell I believe you can retrieve the key from Musicmatch. My guess is the shortcut on your desktop is because Musicmatch is set to auto upgrade (options | settings) when new versions are available. In any event, if you had the free version, just download it from the link provided...I too have musicmatch on a cd from a Dell purchased PC of two years ago.
Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the add-remove programs list, and Music Match is not there, so at least I now know that much. Other family members do use this computer, so they may have somehow removed it. Thanks for posting!
hi there, in my short lived computer experience i have never seen a program place a icon for reinstall on the desktop.which doesnt mean it cant happen.
as far as "When I attempt to run this, I get a message telling me to insert a disk." to me that sounds like say an uncompleted uninstall or say someone deleted the install log for that program. like they say u coild download a new free copy on the net.
sometimes even when a program completely uninstall it may still be listed as installed. if so apparently programs look there and will not install again.
I imagine that you are correct in your belief that someone deleted MMJB. Go to your Find Files and type
mmjb*.exe and see if anything appears...anywhere.
After nothing appears, go to your root directory and see if there is a Music Match folder, plus a few subfolders.
After you discover that there is nothing there, then member- WildOne's suggestion about downloading a free version is probably what you need to do.

Getting around Dell's website is becoming so incredibly tedious and boring that things have become jumbled in nonsense.
Thus, I am afraid to direct you to
click this link; however, the link should take you into an area that used to be called "Dell Tips & Hints" also known as
Solutions. (It is now "Dell: Client & Enterprise Solutions". It is a shame Dell learned the English language; it gives them too many words with which to play.)
In Dell's usual, circuitous and "scrambling way" to deliver information, you may eventually find your way into the Music Match info. Or you could try clicking
here.
This Music Match info will tell you that you need to download a free copy of
mmjb40529.exe. Yet everything around Dell is so badly jumbled and faulty that even this #40529 appendage will turn out most likely to be useless. Note what Dell writes earlier:
"There are many digital music playing and ripping devices available. One of the best programs out there is Music Match ( currently in version 4.5). There is a free version that provides you with most of the functionality you will need."
Music Match is an ok program but there is nothing special about it. Windows Media Player 7.0 is better and I suppose 9.0 is even better than 7.0. Real Player Basic 8 accomplishes more than the free MMJB and about the only thing decent in MMJB is a slightly better recording feature than Creative's Recorder. Yet... not by much. If you go to the MM website, MM will want to download something other than the 4.5. But, like Dell said, 4.5 is ok; so you may want to go
here and download 4.0 (see the bottom of the page).
Since Yahoo just bought Music Match, you might be better off pursuing Yahoo's mediaplayer and its free downloads and looking to upgrade through Yahoo to something better.
Thanks so much for your response, and for your insight into the situation re. Yahoo's purchase of Music Match.
I, too, have been dismayed at the decreasing intuitiveness of navigating around Dell's website. When we bought our second Dell 3 years ago, the support on the website as we'd experienced it with our first Dell was a major selling point for us; hope they'll wake up!

When I received my Dell (nearly three years ago) the Jukebox program was on a CD labeled Backup: Dell Installed Programs.

Hi, Denny!
Thanks for the suggestion. However, I looked through all the CDs that came with my system, with no luck.

Hi, WildOne!
Thanks for your interest and your response, especially your suggestion about what Music Match is set to do. I hadn't thought of that possibility.
