Reinstalling XP and automatic reboot now

Hello gang!

I just installed Windows XP Pro on a brand new Dimension 9200 with a SATA drive.  I slip streamed in the driver for the SATA drive to get everything installed and that process went fine.

However, when XP now tries to boot for the first time, it automatically reboots again and again and I can see no way of stopping it or diagnosing what the problem might be.

Any suggestions?

Mike

No, none of the safe mode options let me in.

As an FYI, the reason I'm doing a clean install is to install XP Pro.  The system came with XP Home.

What version of Windows XP Pro was it?  If not SP2...

Did you leave a CD in the player?

No, I didn't leave the CD in the drive, I've done this a few times. :-)

It's XP Pro with SP2, I slipstreamed in the SATA driver so it'd install.  My system doesn't have a floppy drive.

Its been a while but isn't there another safe mode you can use that lets you load the system files and drivers one at a time (interactive?) That way you can find at what file it hangs..

Please forgive my lack of knowledge when it comes to slipstreamed discs, but wouldn't it be easier to buy a copy of Windows XP-I know it's expensive, but...-and then just add the updates? I know that all the drivers are on the Recorvery CD. I've always had WinXP Pro with SP2, so I've very unfamiliar with slipstreamed discs. But aren't they discs with the OS on them and also all the updates? I wouldn't have a clue as to how to make one. One day I was reading instructions on making these discs and it goes way beyond my knowledge. And I've been using computers for 11 years now. I started out with Win3.1.

There are no drivers on a REINSTALLATION CD, and there is NO SUCH THING as a Recovery CD for a Dell.

Easier?  Yeah, $150+ easier.

I meant to type Resource CD, not Recovery CD. When I bought my Dell 9100 I didn't get any discs with it. But I gave them a call and they sent me the OS CD, which is WinXP Pro SP2, as well as the Resource CD, the burning software, the audio software, which is a soundblaster, and a few other cds, and they didn't charge me anything. So Please don't jump down my throat. I made a mistake in typing, that's all. And yes, I know how very expensive Windows OS discs are. I've seen them in the store. That is why I called Dell. They were very nice and didn't give me a problem in sending the CDs, which they sent overnight. I was just trying to help. I've read all the info. on making a slilpstreamed disc. I'm just not that technical. So, if Dell didn't give me the OS disc, and I was changing from the Home Edition of XP and I really wanted the Pro version, I'd have to shell out the money to buy it. That is why when I ordered my pc from Dell I made sure that I was getting Windows XP. Chill out a little. I wasn't trying to offend you. I can't help it if I'm not as smart as you are.
