Remove Hardware Safely
Season's Greetings to ALL on the Forum,
I currently have two Dell computers running Windows XP. My newest (for me) is a Deminsion 4600. This computer came with the little icon about safely removing hardware. Up until now I have just ignored this icon. I was told yesterday that removing any hardware; ie, memory stick, cable DSL hookup, etc may cause BIG problems. My Dell 4400 also running Windows XP does not have this icon. So, it is probably wise to use this icon on my 4600 when using the memory stick. (I chose not to have the 3.5 drive). I have also have been having quite a bit of trouble with my DSL which has me changing USB ports. I guess the same rule applies to this hardware...... However, what about my D 4400 that does NOT show the icon on the task bar? Someday I'll get a good book on Windows XP and read it. Until then, any help????
My compliments of the Season the ALL the Friendly People ay Dell and the Forum... art

If you have a USB device on the new system (and not on the older one) see this.

Thanks for the reply.. But I wouldn't mind using this option on my D4400 but the icon is not in the lower task bar. I did as Denny suggested and right clicked on the task bar, hit properties, customise. I found remove hardware in a folder under past items. I clicked on the folder and a pull down appeared to the right of it. I click 'alway show' the applied closed. But the icon still does not appear. As far as I know, this icon has never been on my D4400 (running XP ) but it can displayed on the D4600. If this is something I should be using, I'd like to find out how to get the icon to the task bas.... then I'll use it :smileyhappy:
