I had no problem uninstalling AOL from control panel, add/remove programs, did you try that? Then I did a search with regedit to remove all references to it in the registry, but that is not essential if you don't feel comfortable editing the registry.
You could open Program Files & just Delete AOL Folder ,doesn't remove Registry entries or all files but most.
Strange I was able to remove AOL by using Add or Remove Programs.
Depending on which version of AOL is on your system, you will have files and folders for AOL all over the system and several hundred registry entries related to AOL. There are files in c:\program files\common files, in Documents and Settings for various users, in My Pictures, and then folders such as Viewpoint, Companion, nullsoft, Quicktime, Realplayer, Pure Networks, and a few more that are installed by and for AOL. Even the Add/Remove does not remove many of these folders. Ya just have to go hunting if you really want to clean up your system disk. With AOL 9.0 Optimized being approximately 60 megabytes of download, it tramples all around your C drive when it installs.
A good registry cleaner such as jv16 Powertools will remove hundreds of AOL registry entries.
