1. Many apps have an option to disable the component that they set to start on boot. For those, open the app and disable the startup item from there.

2. Some apps place a shortcut in start/programs/startup folder. Remove any of the shortcuts you don't want.

3. For others, Click start, click run. Type msconfig, press enter or click OK.

In the System Configuration window that opens, click on the startup tab.
Uncheck the items you do not want.
Click apply, OK
Restart your PC. You will get a message that you are in selective mode. This gives you the opportunity to change back anything you unchecked, should you have made a mistake/changed your mind. If you are happy with the changes you made, check the box at the bottom of that message. Next time you restart it will not appear again.

If you are not sure what a startup item refers to, you can get information and recommendation as to whether you need it from

The alternative to using msconfig is to use one or other startup manager, many available. If you have Spybot S&D (recommended for scanning/ removing malware), in advanced mode it has one.

What is the point in repeating what has been advised in the post just above yours?
