Repair the Windows Boot Configuration without a CD Drive

Hello there,

Today I received the dreadful "hal.dll is missing or corrupt" error message. The first step to resolve it I assume is to repair the boot configuration using the Windows XP Recovery Console. I have other computers running XP and also the original install CD.

However, the computer is a Dell Mini 9 (Inspiron 910) and does not have a CD drive.

How can I repair it? Any advice on how to create a bootable USB memory key with the repair files?

Thank you a lot,

Dave

Quintiere,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You will need to purchase or maybe borrow and external dvd in order to run a repair on the OS by booting to the OS disc.

Thank you for your reply Jesse.

But can't I run a repair from a bootable USB memory key?
