I'm just wondering why no one replied to this message. I hope that I gave enough information and did not type anything that I should not have. If this problem on my computer can not be fixed I would like to know, I am about ready to jump up and down on this computer.
Did you check youre device boot order in the bios? this will solve the DMboot.sys error, but youre machine will hang during formating...... is there a Sata controler in the machine? I'm dealing with the same problem right now......and partion magic gave an E50 read error.....
There is a work arround......take an W98 cd....F disk....an setup in W98 and then an update to XP
Yes, I did flash bios with latest one on dell's website. The drive seemed to format farther than before the update but it still eventually bsod.
That's why it stumped me, as I expected it to work with XP. I swapped out all hardware pieces except mobo, proc, and ps. Ensured that the disc wasn't faulty.

I have the exact same dimension 4100 and when installing XP I get that BSOD saying that setupdd.sys could not be loaded or some error like that.
This was in the middle of formatting the drive in NTFS.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I tried installing Win2K and it did fine, no bsods, nothing.
This is frustrating because Intel says it's compatible, but I guess my mobo isn't.
HCL is pretty long...try checking it. Good luck.

Did you update your BIOS to the latest available before starting to install XP?
