Require DOS commands to load windows/system/COMCTL32.dll file
Got error message "Cannot load Explorer .exe. Missing windows/system/COMCTL32.file."
Cannot get into safe mode. Refreshing drivers does not help. Reinstalling windows gives error message :Cannot save backup. hard drive too full. Remove files from hard drive. ( Yet 30 gig hard drive is 21.3 empty.)
Have been trying to get help from mobile support for Inspirons with Dell for nearly a month.. ZILCH!
Have copy of required file on a floppy. Can anyone please assist me with the right commands to load it using DOS and the C prompt?
This is not due to a virus. Had used Addd/Remove programs to remove a program Trailer Life Campgrounds. Identical crash occurred on our Latitude, which is never on internet etc .However was able to recover by reinstalling windows.

Boot to Command Prompt Only (restart with a non-bootable floppy in the A:\ drive, the the "Non-system disk" error remove the floppy and press F8 twice, choose Command Prompt Only).
With the floppy diskette containing COMCTL32.DLL in the A:\ drive enter the following:
xcopy a:\comctl32.dll c:\windows\system\comctl32.dll
You may be prompted to tell DOS that COMCTL32.DLL is a file (rather than a folder) but the file should be copied.

Thanks Danny. Followed your instructions and it appeared to be copied. However when I rebooted it came back with the same error message and says to reinstall Windows. when I attempt to "refresh windows"says it had to abort backup as hard drive is too full,. Delete files, empty recycle bin.
The hard drive is only one quaarter full aand I can't get into safe mode so guess my only alternative is to reinstall. Thanks for your help.
