There is no way to restore manually to a point that hasn't been created. You may be able to recover some deleted files by restoring them from your Recycle Bin if it hasn't been emptied since the files were deleted.

If parts of the operating system are missing you can replace them by reinstalling the operating system. However, when ME is installed over an existing installation (a "dirty install") the result is usually a very unstable system, so a clean installation (formatting the hard disk, then installing ME) is recommended. This will remove everything from the C:\ partition of your hard disk so any perishable data must be backed up to removable media (such as CD) before proceeding.

To format and reinstall ME boot your system with an emergency boot diskette (which you can make by going to Start|Settings|Control Panel|Startup Disk tab) and at the DOS prompt enter format c: and press . Once the disk is formatted, reinstall ME with the procedure here.
Perishable data means e-mail folders, address books in e-mail programs, My Documents folders, your Desktop, Favorites, Web browser bookmarks, and any other data that has been created by specific applications. Anything that exists on CD (such as games you may have installed or applications themselves) does not need to be backed up, as they can be reinstalled from their CDs.
