restore to factory settings

i want to restore to original settings, too much junk on my computer, 4550 dimension, what is boot or non bootable, all of the instructions assume you know exactly what to do, i understand i need reinstall all of the disks i have, but i dont understand the boots (ha) and what about my email, and my internet connections to charter cable internet service, i guess i need step by step and what to back up and how, sorry im better at a real person talking to me....

The basic procedures for reinstalling Windows XP are here. Specific instructions for reinstalling the drivers for your system are in links here. Install the chipset drivers first after which the order of installation is not important.

Backing up your perishable data is straightforward, simply copy the information to removable media (CD-R or DVD-R). If you are using Outlook Express for your email, instructions for saving it and importing it back into the system after you have installed windows are here.

if you dell was bought after july 15 2004 holding down the ctrl key + f11 key at the dell logo on start and following the instructions will do it

otherwise follow the instructiobs posted above or call dell support and they will walk you through the process so long as you are with contract support
