Restoring to factory

Question

I have an inspiron 1100.  The previous owner tried to restore the machine to original factory set up.  In the process he deleted the partition that contained the factory restore.  The machine came with the win xp install disk and the driver disk but it will not recognize any of the onboard communication devices.  Ethernet or v.92 modem.  Anyone know if there is anything that can be done??  Ive tried to install the com devices many ways and no matter what it tells me the drivers aren't on the disk.  The drivers work for everything else but the com devices.   Thanks in advance

Before you can install drivers for any device integrated on the motherboard, you need to install the chipset drivers for the motherboard. You can download the drivers from:

It might be looking for the Notebook System Software, I think thats what Dell calls it.  But you need to affrom you have the Chipset, Video, Audio, & NIC drivers installed, then worry about a modem driver.  If the other are loaded, then you are trying to load the wrong driver for that modem.
