Right-click properties does nothing

I've searched the forums and tried everything posted. Nothing has worked yet.

If I right click on a folder and select either Properties or Sharing & Security,
nothing happens.

if you have divx installed that may be the problem; install the most updated version

did you do a full virus scan ?

run this command (from Start|Run): sfc /scannow (note space)

these are jump possible solutions; nothing definite

I have Norton Internet Security and have performed a full scan. I've also done checkdisk and it corrected some file attribute errors it said were "minor"...but now I'm not so sure. BTW: I have not used this laptop for surfing the internet, only for downloading Microsoft & Norton updates. Thus, I've been extremely careful not to encounter a virus as I'm planning a trip abroad with the laptop soon. I'm using an older PC for my typical internet (email, surfing) access and the laptop is disconnected from any network. Thanks for your suggestions, but I think it's a different problem other than virus.

note my syntax correction on the sfc /scannow (command)

If you don't use it for the internet you probably don't need NIS; the XP ICF/firewall may be sufficient. Do you have the option of uninstalling NIS and just installing Norton AV 'module' ? Make sure you have *a* firewall up before going online since it appears as if you don't have the SP2 installed (?).

Uninstalling NIS may fix your right-click issue. Also this utility may help you if you're up to it.

NO !!!

I plan to use my laptop for accessing very select sites (not general surfing) and that is why I spent the money to purchase Norton Internet Security. I do not have any reason to suspect that NIS is the reason for this problem. Do you or are you merely guessing ?
