Roxio 5.2 Basic incompatible with Windows XP

I had the Roxio 5.2 Basic which I came with my Dell.  I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall all applications.  When I try and reinstall Roxio from the DELL "For Installing/Reinstalling Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.2 Basic" disk it says it is not compatible with my version of Windows.

When I purchased the computer, it had XP Pro SP1 on it.  I now have SP2.  However, Roxio was running on my system before everything went down.  When I go to the Roxio website and try to download the update for this version, it won't install because it doesn't find a version of Roxio on my hard drive!

What can I do to get this app installed?  I don't really use it enough to warrant spending the $ to upgrade.

Many thanks for any solution.

You could reinstall Windows XP and install Roxio before updating to SP2.  Or, give some of the free CD burning programs a try.  Do a Google search for "Free CD burning software" and you'll find there are quite a few.  DeepBurner Free seems to be a popular one, although I haven't tried it myself.

Roxio V5 is compatible with Windows XP - BUT you must have the latest updates from the Roxio site.

When you first install Roxio V5 (basic or platinum version), Windows XP will give you an error notice that it's incompatible.  However, just go ahead and install it BUT DO NOT try to run Roxio.  Download and install the updates, restart Windows XP and it will work fine.  I've done this on several customer's new PC's and it works fine.

It did not work on mine.:smileysurprised: When I run the update, I get "the has been canceled. it only runs on platinum". So I found out i don't have the platinum, it is 5.2.0.56sp1. now what?

I had to reinstall xp. Dell did not send me the windvd with my inspiron, tech support refuse to send one or their current verison cd, because 'their contract run out with windvd', you can only get trail version download on the net. Any suggestion?

Two separate updates are used for Roxio Easy CD Creator v5, one is for the Basic version, one is for the Platinum version.

For WinDVD, an inexpensive replacement CD for version 5 may be purchased on e-bay and elsewhere. This is also an option for a replacement for the Roxio Easy CD Creator CD.
