Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 & 6
My computer has a CD-RW drive, and I use the Dell supplied Roxio Easy CD-Creator
5 software (updated to 5.3.35) to burn data. Recently, I was at a retail store and noticed Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator
6 for sale for about $20. Is there any performance improvements between versions 5 & 6? Version 5 runs fairly well, although occasionally I get an error message. Of course, that could be the fault of the disc itself, and not the software.
The latest version of Roxio burning software is far too expensive for me.

Version 6 is an old version. The current Version is V8. V6 and V7 are not much better than the V5 you have, except they are the full vesions not the "lite" or "basic" version that is supplied by Dell.
I've had all the versions and am now using V7.5 and it's the best version they put out. I can't speak for the current V8 as I don't have it and none of my customers have it.

But once you patch 6 with 6.1, that stops.

Audio wise, what does 7-8 have over 6??

7.5 has a much improved Audio "recording" program. Most of the bugs in 6 and 7 have been fixed in 7.5. Fortunately none of my customers have V8 and I see no reason to upgrade to it.
I also upgraded my Nero V6 to V7 as I have two customers with it and if it wasn't for having in on my PC in case I get phone questions about it I would go back Nero V6. I can't get any updates to load in V7 (they uninstall the versoin on the hard drive and then require a reboot but get hung up as the install program needs to access the web but the install program runs before Windows XP is fully initialized or at least initialized enought for the NIC to be able to communicate and thus the install fails). The retail version 7 updates also change the program to a "Demo" program - Nero has promised to fix this for 3 months and two updates but it hasn't been fixed yet.

From V6 on import of previous sessions is automatic.
You can't believe how the number of "problems" with Sessions dropped to near Zero since then.
This is the same way XP Burn handles sessions but since Roxio wrote, no surprise there.
Of course problems still show up in the V5 conference…

The V6 is a current retail product available in both stores as well as Roxio's web site.
It hasn't been updated since 12/03 and the retail version should be 6.2.0.134.
I think Sonic/Roxio put it back out as a low cost simple burning package that is fully compatible with Win9/NT4 through XP. V7 & V8 are only compatible with XP/W2K.
It (V6) has basic Video functions but DL burning is not supported.

Just to clarify. Import of the last session is indeed automatic, but the function to import any session prior to the last has been removed.
Jim,
1. I see only version 8 on sale on the Roxio website.
2. Retail version 6 does support DVD burning - otherwise it's not called Easy CD & DVD Creator 6, or were you referring to a different version 6?

After 3 years of running sessions in this manner, no one has complained. If you are using the "missing feature" from V5 often there is a serious flaw in your backup procedure. In any case it isn't there in V6, V7, V8, nor is it ever likely to return…
1: Your not looking closely… On the product page at the lower left is a button for "Check out our Windows 98 software!" It will take you to this page
2: Retail and most Basic V6 versions DO NOT support DL burning. They will burn a 4.7gb DVD.
As I stated, V6 is there for pre XP/W2K systems or as a cheap simple burning program. Sort of a last gasp availability for a program that is in dormant mode. It is not for everyone nor was it intended to be.
