This version of Roxio is dated. This was on my old computer when I had it built 5-6 years ago. Current version is 9. It might be that it is not supported anymore.

Version 5 is still still supported by XP, however you need the Roxio update - without the update it will not work or work properly.  Go to www.roxio.com and download the update for the V5 BASIC version.

I have several clients still using it without problems.  And there was a recent thread on this subject in the Other Software Section and a report from a user that they were still using it with XP SP2.

Agreed that it's an old version, but it works.

Sorry about the repeat message, something jumped. Couldn't erase it.  Not used to this particular system.

To complete my thought:  I'm worried that this is some sort of copy-cat that looks like a legit. thing, because I can't figure out why I would a) suddenly get this sent to me,  b) get a very old version.  I'm thinking I should keep it out, even the updated version because of the trouble people are having.

Do I need Roxio at all?

Regarding your question "Do I need Roxio at all?", a logical answer would be "No, you don't need it at all."

Thanks, guys.  I don't even know what Roxio is FOR!  On the paper that came with my computer listing all the components I was getting, Roxio is not listed.

The Roxio V5 basic came with many Dells.  It is the CD burning software.  There is built in Cd burning in Windows XP but it's chinzy compared to a "real" CD burning program.  Same way with the Cd burning in Windows Media player, it is only for music and doesn't have all the bells and whistles a "real" CD burning program has.

I use Roxio 5.something on my Dell that came with it, though I did upgrade to the platinum version. Still works in XP SP2, and does what I need it to. I have heard of a program called RoxioZap that is supposed to delete all Roxio off of a system. I could not find a link to it at Roxio, but it is out there if you do a search for it. If you run it, it should delete any legit Roxio stuff on your machine. If the problem goes away, great. If not, try posting in the Virus / Spyware Forum.
