Roxio Easy Media Creator V9 is the current version.  Version 6 and 7 are obsolete.

However, if you plan on upgrading to Vista, there are some issues with Roxio V9 according to what I see on their forum, and no fixes yet from Roxio. I have V9 installed on my Vista machine but am only using the Label Creator portion.  I also have Nero Ultra V7, which is XP and Vista compatible and use that for all my CD/DVD applications.

V6, if it is called, "Easy CD & DVD Burning" and comes is Red Box, is a current Roxio offering… It is essentially ECDC V6 and offered only through retail stores.

It will not burn to DL media but should not have problems recognizing drives. Losing drives when installing or uninstalling burning software is a common XP problem. Deleting the drive and the upper/lower filters should return the burner.

As fireberd pointed out the current version is V9 and rest assured V6 will never be made Vista compatible. If you contact Roxio directly, they should make arrangements for a refund.

Hi Peeps!!!

Just a follow up, I called Roxio and they (imo) will not stand behind their product. They will not give me a refund, and they stated I needed to be careful to read the requirements on the box, which was my mistake in the firstplace. They told me I need to go through technical support to get help getting it up and running.
I was told by Dell not to put the software back on my system, if there are compability issues, and that it is an OLD software version.

I would like anyone's input again.  NO MORE roxio/sonic for me!!!!!!

You never did tell us what version you have… If you bought it new in the last 3 months you may be eligible for an update. – They have a newer Easy CD and DVD Burning Retail product based on V9 coming out. This one will work with DL media and be Vista compatible – there is a sticker on the box.

It is still a stripped down version so don't expect to be able to run with the big dogs for $30!!!

Customer service may not be aware of this as it just happened near the end of this week. Keep in mind that this only applies to the Retail version called " Easy CD and DVD Burning"! It is ina Red Box, and if the one you have doesn't say exactly that or didn't come in a Red Box, it doesn't qualify.

Don't needlessly abandon Roxio.  As mentioned before, deleting the Upper/Lower Filters can resolve the issue of non-detection.

Roxio has noted that this can be an issue when you uninstall their software.  Searching for Upper Filters or Lower Filters can get you more instructions.

Or you can simply uninstall your Roxio software, open Regedit, and locate the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.  There will be multiple versions of the key; look for the one entitled "DVD/CD-ROM drives."

Once you get there, back up the entry by clicking on it, choosing Export, and saving the .reg file to your desktop with a descriptive name like "DVDBackup."  (Always back up the registry before making a change!)

Next, delete any entry that says "Upper Filters" or "Lower Filters."  They are remnants of your old installation.  If they are needed, they will be automatically rebuilt.

Reboot the machine.  Your DVD drive should reappear.

You can then use it to reinstall your Roxio software.  Please note that DLA (Drive Letter Access) as issued by Dell is not currently compatible with Vista; however, you can still burn DVDs and CDs without it using the Data Disc setting in your Roxio software.

Cheers!

I have got such a bad taste in my mouth that I have uninstalled it, the only thing that won't come off is the Sonic decoders, it won't let me remove it out of the add/remove program and it does not show up in the registry.  I do not know what to look for...for i.e. that code you just gave......
The thing that angers me that Roxio sells an outdated product in the stores, and then wants you to go and get the latest version on their website, it SHOULD come with the updated version.

I will go back in the registry and see if this works as for as deleting, I will not put it back on my laptop, btw I have windows me-No Vista. I really appreciate your input & help.
