RPC Server Is Unavailable, and Other Problems.
Hi,
I'm attempting to reformat a Dell Dimension 8400 from 2005.
The system restore was corrupted and it was shipped after Dell stopped sending software CDs with computers, but I managed to find and burn the ISO files for a re-installation of Windows XP Media Center 2005. However, the download did not include the Service Pack 2 install CD that the Windows Installer prompted for. I continued the installation without Service Pack 2 hoping to get connected to the internet and allow Microsoft Update to take over. However, when I tried to install my network drivers I got the error - "RPC Server is Unavailable" and it will not let me install them.
I downloaded the SP2 updater via another computer and installed it via an external drive, and I am still getting the same errors. I've been attempting to reformat this computer for three days, and I've run into every problem in the book! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

This problem occurs because of a mismatch in the computer name and the name that the RPC service expects.
