Run DLL as an App

I'm receiving the following error:

"Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Now I've uninstalled and reinstalled my video driver in an effort to fix this but that didn't do it as I'm still getting the error when I start-up my computer. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Start Run and type in   sfc /scannow   hit ok and let it run  (space between c and /) have your XP cd ready, it may ask for it..

it's quite possible that a de-install or crash left some rubbish in the registry,
trying to startup a DLL that is not there anymore.

Try CCleaner, it might fix the problem.

If it does not, download autoruns : it will show you every single thing that starts when you boot into Windows.
The entry is listed here if the error still pops up when booting.
If you find the error, you can disable the entry to see if it works as expected.
If it does, the entry can be deleted.

Hope this helps.

Okay, I've run sfc /scannow and it didn't ask for my XP disc. I also tried CCleaner and it didn't fix the problem. Now I have downloaded autoruns and run it but I'm not sure what tab I should be looking for the error under, also would it show as an "autorun entry" or in the "description" field?

Just glancing through though I have found several autorun entries that under the image path begin with "file not found," so I was wondering if I was able to do something with these such as delete them?

the "file not found" entries can be safely deleted.
Those are entries that should have been removed when you uninstalled the
corresponding apps.

I would reboot after deleting the entries and see if the problem still exists.

It reads like a phonebook : all entries contain useful information.... and you need to decide if it is relevant.

What you are looking for is an entry that you know cannot be right.
How would you know this ? If you de-installed the driver, application etc.

Have you checked the eventlog ? It may just show more detailed info about the problem.

Alternatively, if this problem popped up just recently and you cannot find the problem ;
you can go back in time to a point that the problem did not exist.
The disadvantage of this procedure is that you loose apps you installed since the date of the restore
point, problems you have solved since then are back... tweaks are undone...patches are not there...
You really go back in time.
So if you do this i would advise to immediately update XP, and all other software like the virusscanner, Office etc. afterwards.
