safe mode/system error/
I have a question but am not even sure what to ask, but here goes.
My computer has now, upon turning on, says your computer has recovered from a fatal error. Then it proceeds to tell me things to do if this is the case. For example, restart computer hit f8, put in safe mode, etc... What is safe mode? I have never heard of this. It cannot be adequate disk space as it is a new system. It also says something about sustem updates. Check with manufacture.
Anyone have any ideas as to what this means and what I should do to make sure my system is safe from fatal errors?
Thanks for the help, as I am still teaching myself all I can!

Safe Mode is a mode of operation in which the system loads a minimal amount of items, including very few drivers. It is used for troubleshooting. As the message indicates if you begin tapping the F8 key when you start the computer a menu will appear from which you can select a mode to start the computer in, and Safe Mode is one of those options.
It would be helpful if you could post the exact wording of the error messages including the one that refers to system updates.
Have you added any new hardware or software just before receiving the error message on startup?

That error is almost always associated with a hardware driver problem. Take a look in Device Manager (Start|Control Panel|System|Hardware tab, click "Device Manager" button) and see if there are any red or yellow "bangs" indicating a problem.

Did all that was asked and I didn't see any yellow bangs as you called it. Nothing there. THis is a new computer bought in January 2005. Well I am going to try the safe mode and go from there. Just follow all the prompts and see if it will do anything.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
