Scan Disk Runs Everytime after Proper Shutdown

I have a Inspiron 8000 with Windows ME. It's about 3 years old now, a little over.  Within the last couple months, every time I start it up, Scan Disk Runs, saying "Improper shutdown detected. Checking Disks for errors...".  I always shut down the computer via the Start Button, (unless something freezes Windows, making it impossible to use the start button).  How do I access and alter this setting?

Go to Windows Update from the Start menu, allow it to search for available updates. Under Windows Millennium Edition, you'll see an item called Windows IDE Hard Drive Cache Package. Select, download and install that. If it does not work, post back.

Thanks.  That did the trick.  Just so you know, if anyone else is doing this, restart, let scan disk run and restart again.
