Screen saver / power management not working

Question

I have a brand new DIM 9100 using XP Pro and have noticed this problem:

I am using the simple screen saver which is part of the OS package. I turned off power management and hibernation, so as not to interfere with the screen saver. I set it to 5 minutes, and it did not start. I set it to 4 minutes, and no go. I set it to 3 and 2 minutes with no success. When I set it to 1 minute, then it works . I went back to 2 minutes... no screen saver. Why does the 1 minute setting work and not the others?

I tried the same thing with just the power management (screen saver turned off) and got the same results... worked at 1 minute but nothing higher.

Can anyone offer suggestions to fix this problem..............thanks

Remember any mouse or keyboard movement will reset the timer back to 0

Yes, during the period while waiting for the screen saver / power management to activate, I have not touched the mouse or keyboard.   What I don't understand is why it works for the 1 minute setting and not for the others.   I have tested this numerous times.
