Search Program INOP
Whenever I go to start and search and try to do a search for anything on my computer, the computer will freeze up and quit responding.
When I open the task manager to see what is happening, it says that the search is not responding, so I have to quit the program.
This has been a long going on problem that I have just lived with but now would like to find out how to repair it.
Thanks

Reinstalling Search may correct the problem.
Open Explorer and go to the Windows\Inf folder. Locate the srchasst.inf file. Right click it and select Install. You'll need your XP CD or the files from the I386 folder. (This fix will require you to have your Win XP CD).
The Windows\Inf folder is a hidden folder. You can adjust your Explorer Folder Options (View tab) to Show hidden files and folders. You can also click Start, Run and enter %SystemRoot%\Inf to open directly to the Inf folder.
The above is from the "S" page of this site. If reinstallation does not solve the problem, see if another suggestion on the "S" page will help.
