Searching for Computers compatible with Win NT

Dear sirs,

Urgent requirement!

We have a major problem that we need two computers that can work with Win NT operating system.

The reason of this is that we have an old software that can only run with Win NT operating system. (The software is related to industrial control sysetms).

So could you please point us to the right direction.

Thanks in advance

I'd be willing to bet that the reason you're not getting any responses to this question is due to the fact that for all practical intents and purposes, Windows NT (along with Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME) is obsolete.  If your third party software vendor can't provide you with a solution from the current century, perhaps it's time to start shopping for a new supplier.  No one is supporting Windows NT anymore, unless they're under a long term contract which requires patching archaic technology, and there aren't too many of those dinosaurs roaming the earth these days.  I guess it's the price we pay for abandoning the abacus and going high tech.

Actually, The software supplier provides software versions that are combaitable with all new Windows versions, The problem is that one of our clients only have the OLD harware (Controllers) that is only programmed and managed by this OLD software which only run in Win NT. The upgrade is a solution of course, But it will cost hem alot (A LOT), Beacuse he will have to upgrade bothe the hardware and the software.

No one is supporting Windows NT anymore, ...

So, Does that mean that Dell has no computers that support Win NT ?

Thanks

I sincerely doubt that you'll find any new ones that support it.  You may be able to find an old Optiplex from 1999 on E-Bay that does, but there's not going to be any profit advantage for Dell to build a new system for a Microsoft operating system that, for all practical intents and purposes, Microsoft itself no longer supports.

Times change - hardware changes - the demands of business customers hoping to compete in the modern day environment change.  Why force yourself to use an application that the original developers don't even care enough about to engineer it so that it functions with a contemporary operating system?

Ayman Metwally,

As mentionned earlier, you might check on e-Bay or perhaps locally.  Look for Dell Optiplex GX1p, Dell 4100 or Dell 8100.  These older computers have PIII processors that run in the 600 to 900+Mhz range.  The Optiplex GX1 was specifically designed to run Windows NT.   Biggest problem with newer Dells is that most incorporate all I/O in mainboard.  Getting chipset drivers for NT will pose a problem for these newer machines.  Intel Integrated ATA controller drivers and other drivers for NT 4.0 are available for the above-mentionned models on Dell Drivers and Downloads site: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

I understand perfectly your desire to find compatible machines for NT 4.0.  Have several customers in the same fix.  Cost to upgrade software and CPU at the same time is staggering for some special application software such as MasterCam.  First objective is to make money with what you have, then use some (not all) of the profit to gradually upgrade your system(s).

Hope this information helps.

Tony
