Searching for rcd.msi, cannot be found...

Question

This is about the dumbest thing I've seen so far. I have a new gx-520 that we set up for a user. Nothing special, same thing we've done a million times. However, this one setup has an error pop up whenever she logs into our little staff program that lets everyone know if someone is in/out/lunch/vacation/etc...

It always says that a file is missing and to please locate it. The browse box has a simple one in it. When you browse to find the file, it is named rcd.msi and is suppose to be on the Dell Resource CD that came with the computer.

Of course, it isn't.

I cannot find reference to this file on Dell's site or through google. I have some sound references to it in the registry. I deleted it and it still wanted the resource cd along with a new error.

I restored the registry and now I'm back to square one.

Any thoughts?

The resource CD installs a front end program that shows up in add / remove programs. Try removing it there.

I highlighted the Dell Resource CD in Add/Remove Programs and uninstalled it. The problem vanished.   This problem reared its ugly head out of the clear blue skies, on a sunny Friday early evening of all the rotten times to happen, and for no apparent reason. The computer (Windows XP) suddenly asks me to install the rcd.msi file from the Dell resource CD every time I triy to open an HTML help (.chm) file when I invoked help from an application.   This is the first time in my 25 years of computing that a 'fix' offered by any representative (of Dell, HP or other computer company) actually works! You deserve a medal (or at least a healthy bonus from Dell! Tell accounting I authorized it! ;-)   Thanks!!

When trying to uninstall the Dell Resource CD, I get the same error asking for the CD-ROM.   Any suggestions?
