Serious problems with Internet Explorer / McAfee etc ~ Please please can someone help?!

For the past week or so I have not been able to access any MSN pages, ( The home page won't even load) nor can I open some secure sites through AOL.  At the same time, my McAfee security centre will not update either automatically as it used to, nor will it let me update manually.

 

I am hoping that these 3 problems are related and can be fixed by solving one issue. 

 

I have tried some fixes mentioned on Microsoft help pages such as pasting this into 'run' :

"%ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" /rereg 

 

Nothing happened when I supposedly repaired Internet Explorer and also ran sfc /scannow

 

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and use Windows XP Home Edition.

 

Please can someone help as I have been trying various fixes for many hours now :( 

Aol can't offer advice and McAfee were useless!
