SERVER NOT FOUND WINDOWS VISTA

Question

Recently purchased new Dimension E520 running on vista. I have a broadband connection via a Netgear DG834GT router. I find surfing extemely slow and frequently the page will not load but replies with server not found. Clicking again it will sometimes load up but often takes 3,4 0r 5 attempts. any solution would be welcome.

Sounds like your network is not set up correctly. You need to explain your setup--how is the modem is connected to the router, kind of modem, how is the computer connected to router, what the Network & Sharing Center shows about your setup. The Network & sharing center has settings you need to review and has good Help topics. Also check the Connections tab in Internet Options in IE. Make sure 'Never dial a connection' is selected and your connection is using the LAN.

The set up is as follows - Netgear super wireless ADSL modem router which is connected to the pc via a ethernet cable to the network slot which then goes back to the BT slot via a splitter. Network & Sharing centre shows Computer - Network 2 - Internet. Looked up IE connections which shows Never dial connection checked but not sure how i check the connection is using the LAN
