SETI@Home causing 100%CPU usage

Yeah, it's supposed to.  The program uses your CPU to test and see if little green men exist.  That's why your task manager shows 100% usage.

Personally, I'd rather donate my CPU time to cancer research.  Seems a bit more useful, but that's a completely different discussion...

Yes, that is normal. Seti@home is using the CPU time that would otherwise be 'System Idle' time.

Derf, is it OK to keep it running all the time rather than just using it in screensaver mode? Doesn't seem to affect performance except CPU is always at 100%.

The last question wasn't specifically addressed to me but the thread's been idle for a while so here goes...  You can safely leave it on for as long as you want.  Your fans may get a bit louder because of the extra heat generated, but that's no big deal as long as you can tolerate the noise.  It won't harm the PC in any way.  However, you may not notice the impact for little things like email and such, but if you do any gaming or anything like that, the performance hit is there.  Even though SETI will let the other processes have the CPU time they need, it still seems to slow things down just a tad.  I noticed that it took a bit longer for my browser and other programs to open if I left it on all the time.  Just something to think about...
