Thank you for the link....But I did do all of that and I am still getting the same error "Point was unable to complete your request because it could not access files in C:\Winpoint\work. Please check the permissions in that directory".....What else could it be??

If you are logged in with Admin rights, then this is not an XP issue.

sometimes the OS or an app on it produce strange/misleading errors.
 
Personally i would use regmon and filemon, or the latest process monitor by Sysinternals to see whether Winpoint has problems. (free tools)
That usually shows nice things like locked or missing files or regkeys, permission problems, etc.

btw, have you asked Calyx support ?
