SFC cannot find CD

I've read the same problem here on the boards but I can't find the right keys to edit so I'm posting, sorry for the repetition.

SFC starts to run and gives me the message pops up that says: Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL cache. Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD now. There are "Retry" "More   Information" and "Cancel" options. I clicked Retry and that   window keeps popping up.

mjaeky,

To make sure that Windows is looking in the right place for the CD open the registry editor (Start|Run, enter regedit, click OK). In the registry navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup and make sure that the value set for SourcePath is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive (i.e. E:\).

mjaeky,

Yes,

SourcePath    REG_SZ    E:\

(if E:\ is your CD-ROM drive).

I don't have a Source Path option.  These are my options in the Setup folder:

Default
9F1c1aa-197b-4942-ba54-47a8-489bb47
BootDir
Installation Sources
Log Level
Private Hash
ServicePackCachePath
ServicePackSourcePath

Am I missing something?

First, should I create a key in that folder then for the CD Drive or the DVD drive?

Second,  D is my DVD drive.  E is my CD-RW drive.  Dell email support instructed me to put the CD in the top tray (the DVD) drive.  Should I be putting it in my CD-RW drive?

Thanks...

Just in case Denny has had it for the day, the answer is YES.  The E: drive is being identified as the source drive.

mjaeky,

Yes, you should create a new value in the Setup folder. Based on what Dell told you, I suspect the DVD drive is set ahead of the CD-ROM drive in the boot order in BIOS. In that case, you should set the SourcePath to D:\. (If SFC can't find the CD, it's easy enough to go back and set it to E:\.)
