sfc
I am an average pc user with no training. I have done a little reading about 'safe file checker' and it appears to be a function you would use if a file became corrupted or lost; with the cd disk you could then correct or retrieve that file.
Could you, in layperson's terms, tell me a bit about it and if it is a procedure one with no formal training should consider learning?
Thank you

System File Checker can be used to replace any missing or corrupted system files. To use it go to Start|Run, enter sfc /scannow (note that there is a space after sfc and before /) and click OK. The program will scan your system for system files and if any need to be replaced it will replace them from the C:\Windows\system32\dllcache folder.

In the event a missing file is not in the dllcache folder, Windows will prompt you to insert the XP CD.
