Share Files Between XP & Vista Computers?

Ok, I just recently purchased a new Vista PC that is setup on my wireless network. My XP system is plugged directly into my router. How do I share files between the two?

This worked perfectly with my wirteless XP laptop using workgroups but I can't seem to figure out how to get it done with Vista.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

One thing the article doesn't mention--workgroup name in Vista is not the same as XP. Vista's default name is Workgroup, while XP's is MSHOME. Change one or both to the same name. I found that following the Network and Sharing Center directions and turning on all the options except password protection made it  easy to share with XP. The XP computer might need tweaking of its shared folders so it allow the Vista computer to access the XP files.

First off...thanks for the responses.I followed the instruction from the link provided but still nothing. Not sure why but some of the steps were not available on my pc. For example....advanced sharing? This is not on option, neither is check name. I have the option to share to a specific user account on my vista pc or share the folder on the network in general without specifying a user. Even if i type the computer name & user name it just deletes the user name & sets up the shared folder. Never had a problem sharing files before...this is a little different.

I  had to copy folders I wanted to share in the Public folder.Be sure and tell to share.

IE:  My Documents, Copy folder to Public folder. When you update files BOTH places update and you can Get on other computer from Public folder.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I finally got it to work....kind of.
I had to install LLTD on my XP machine to get it to show up in the Vista network map. It was showing up but I could not do anything with it & the shard files/folders were still nto showing up. I found that if you actually type in the path to the shared folder on the XP computer it will open it. //XP Computer Name/Shared Folder

So I guess Vista just will not show the shared folders available, you just have to gain access through typing in the path to the folders.

Solution I uesd.
1. Create NEW FOLDER in Public
2. Tell  new folder to share
3.Put files you want to share in this folder (also save to)
4. In Network Sharing Center Tell to share Public

This works fine for me.

Was told, My Documents, Marys Documents ETC., are private and require password.

I have a similar problem except I want to access files on an XP computer from my Vista laptop.

Both computers are on a wireless network via an Access Point.

I can access files on the Vista laptop from the XP desktop, but not the other way around

I can see the computer on the network, but when I try to access the files, I get a message that the "computer is not acessible. I might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."

The XP computer is set for file sharing.

Both have the same Work Group name.

Any suggstions?

Thanks.

You also need to make sure your user accounts between the 2 (or more) machines are identical.  Same user name / password.

All mine are the same - no problem sharing.
