Shut down issue...please help

Dear all...it happens to my Dell Desktop, and now my 2 months old samsung laptop

Well first of all...I installed a new program...and if it is a program that connects to the net or server, IE: AIM, then my norton will pop up: AIM is trying to connect to the DNS server, Permit once? Permit all, block once, block all...etcetc

Then I clicked Permet All...

ok that's done...then AIM trys to connect to the server, and it never works...

then pressed CNTL ALT DELETE, to the task manager, and I clicked AIM.exe "End Program"...but it NEVER ends...the program is still in the task manager's list.

Next, I try to restart/shut down my computer...and my computer takes 5 minutes to close all programs...then another 5 for "Logging off my computer" and "saving my windows settings"
This takes like 10 minutes time....total...what is wrong with my computers?

Funny thing is...if I just do normal restart/shutdown without program errors, the computer can do it very fast....
I did virus check and everything, it' fine....
I don't know what I did...or is it a regestration key error...but please help....it's driving me nuts!!!

Regards

  1. I think so your system has norton internet security that has a firewall that blocks the programs to get connect to internet ..so you can turn off the firewall in the system that will allow you to resolve the first issue ...
  2. About the second one your can clear the startup items .. go to Strart - Run then type - msconfig - you will get the system configuration uitility there will be there different tabs select startup .. so there will be different options checked so apart from the antivirus programs uncheck the rest of the things that will make your system to turn off the system .

If you don't have it already, you may want to download/install User Profile Hive Cleanup Service from Microsoft. See this link:

Do you realize what AIM is? It's AOL Instant Messenger. If you don't use it, uninstall it. Or at least disable it by opening it and resetting the options--uncheck everything and tell it not to load at startup, do not run automatically...etc. Do not turn off your Firewall! Stay safe.

I don't think so if you uncheck from the startup nothing will happen ... the programs that are listed in the startup does not deal with the firewall .. actually the firewall related settings are in the service under system configuration  .. with even the aim unchecked in the startup you can allways start by clicking the icon . when you uncheck from the start up nothing will happen and aim is no were related to security.
