Sigmatel Audio

Ok i am very confused. I have been reading these forums and noticed ppl having problems with the Sigmatel sound chip and Vista. I am currently running XP and want to know if i use my express upgrade to vista will my sound stop working. I have an inspiron 6400 with the trial version of the Creative Software. If i delete the creative software before the upgrade does it solve the problem. Many thanks in advanced.

Delete Creative and Sigmatel before you r upgrade and let Vista install it's own drivers.
For some reason when I left Creative on during the upgrade I was unable to uninstall it afterwards
so i had to do a clean install. If you also remove sonic before the upgrade you can reinstall it afterwards and it will skip the DLA file and then there will be no need to apply the patch.

the issue is with users who have both the sigmatel HD audio and the 802.11n wireless card. with the wireless enabled it causes the audio to skip. so far there has been no fix or aknowledgement from Dell. I have had to resort to using a USB 54g card just so I can have wireless and non-skipping audio.

How do they test these things ? Just to make sure the power lights come on.
This is getting ridiculous.

My Audio doesn't skip installing the Sigmatel drivers causes there to be no Audio at all.
I am just using the Audio drivers Vista installs.

I had problems with sigmatel audio on my new inspiron 6400 with vista home premium. It would randonly cut out for a bit and go all crackly. Having searched the forums I didn't find a solution. I googled it and found this page -

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=116279

Basically go into control panel, open sound, select the speakers/headphones, and click Properties, go to the Enhancements tab and select Disable all enhancements. Do this even if none are selected.

I hope this will be some help to people as it instantly solved the issue. There was also the problem that it would take ages to select the next track. This solved that too.

All the best. Ben

I was pulling my hair thinking that is maybe somethink wrong with my mian board or the sound card itself. It finally works like it supose to, but I am still concern about full functionality of my audio system. Didn't we pay enough to get these enhancements as well ?

Hi Guys,

I see a few of you are having a problem with the SigmaTel drivers. I have a disk with the drivers on it. I've just installed Vista Ultimo and had the same problem NO AUDIO. I inserted the disk and had a search through the folders on it and found the drivers, I then installed them and *VOILA* sound again. If you want me to send any of you a zip file containing the drivers so you can give it a try, just mail me on: kerrymquinn@hotmail.com   and I will forward them for you to try on your systems. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501. By the way NO SPAM EMAILS PLEASE, AS I AM ONLY TRYING TO HELP PEOPLE OUT. Thanks. Also if there is anywhere I can upload the zip file with the drivers in, please let me know.
