SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC

I have a Inspiron E1705.  I am interested in upgrading to the new Vista OS.  I currently have XP Home Edition.  I downloaded the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor from microsoft's website http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx and it detected a couple of hardware device compatibility issue. I was curious to see if anyone has run into any issues with the following devices after upgrading to Vista.  Below is a copy of the results from the Window Vista Upgrade Advisor....I tried visiting the Windows Marketplace and didn't find any information on the two devices.

***OpenManage Client Instrumentation device driver Dell Inc There is no compatibility data available for this device. For more information, go to the device manufacturer's website or Windows Marketplace, or contact your retailer.

***SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC SigmaTel There is no compatibility data available for this device.   For more information, go to the device manufacturer's  website or Windows Marketplace, or contact your retailer.

I must say that I have had nothing but problems with the codec.  For the first couple of weeks the sound worked great. Then one day it stopped working.

I reloaded drivers to no avail, often with messages saying that it wasnt the correct ones when I downloaded them directly from the vista-32 dell site.

After several weeks of doing the same dance over and over, I have my sound working in games, internet and music but still have no system sounds.  Crazy as that sounds.

Its not that I need my system sounds, but it just irks me that they dont work?  Still awaiting drivers from Sigma that will do that.

Hi,
I have an E 1705 with the Sigma Tel High Definiton Audio CODEC and have had no problems.  If I were you, before installing Vista go to Windows Update and make sure your present system is updated then even try to update the device through your Device Manager.  (My version is dated 1/12/2007 with a version number of 6.10.0.5343)  Then after installing Vista, of course go to Windows Update but then also try going to your Device Manager and updating there.  I found 6 drivers that were on my system that needed updating even after going to Windows Update after installing Vista!  It's a lenghty process, going through all the devices in the Device Manager but it gives good piece of mind.  :-)  Good luck,
