Slipstream question.
Read that you require true burning sw like Roxio to do the slipstreaming. If true I have some questions:
1. Can I use preformatted cd-rws (done with DCD 3.01) and then copy finished product to a cdr ?
2. If not, any decent freeware to do this ?
3. If not, any workarounds ?
XP SP2 FAT32

I used Autostreamer

for my Dell OEM XP SP1 cd and SP2.
Of course you do need to burn the iso image to disk (and choose bootable CD). I used Roxio EasyCD basic that came with my Dell.

I also originally used Autostreamer for the Dell OEM XP Pro SP1 Reinstallation CD that came with my XPS. It created an .iso file that I burned to a CD-RW. I used it to reformat and reinstall XP (with SP2) on my XPS. When I right-clicked on 'My Computer' and then select Properties it showed version Service Pack 1. I ended up using the manual creation method - and it worked flawlessly.

Idyot,
Did you use the latest version of Autostreamer (1.0.0.30). I think that issue was resolved (in fact I think it was fixed in 1.0.0.29)..
It is the version now available from the Neowin site

Simpswr,
There are known problems with some versions of Dell OEM XP SP1 that also included some hot fixes that were added but not slipstreamed. Instructions for how to overcome that have been posted. (remove svpack, svpack.ini, replace svpack.in_ with a copy from another XP CD without the hotfixes, though this last is not essential). See

I had used 1.0.0.29 - it did not work with my Dell CD. I did some research on the manual method and used it instead. The manual method is easy enough to use.
With Autostreamer, a programming mistake may go undetected. It may not be very likely - but I like the fact that I can see all the steps in the process. I no longer have a need for Autostreamer.
