Start -> settings -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab -> uncheck Automatically search for network folders and printers.

Remove all Mapped drives.

Remove media from all drives.

Disconnect all external drives/other peripherals.

Check Event Viewer (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer) for possible errors.

What network services/protocols/clients do you have except TCP/IP?

msil217,

Can you actually time it and see as close as possible how long it's taking.  Depending on what's going on, what's installed and all that, 5 seconds isn't out of the question.

You say that you've disconnected the USB drive and it still takes that long.  If any applications or anything are looking for the USB drive, the fact that it's disconnected isn't going to matter that much.

Thanks, but I got tired of my pc just getting worse, and unresponsive, so I just recovered using a Ghost image, with minimal of programs. It gonna take me a few days to weeks to get my computer back to the way I want it, lol.

Yes, I already tried disabling Window Image Acqusition, and I don't have those printers.

Thanks anyway.

I like these lines:

" ...

RCA DCM 215 DSL Modem
Unplug all other USB devices when you use this modem.

Cable modem (model unknown)
Unplug all other USB devices when you use your USB cable modem.

... "

Thanks, all. I found the problem. There was an html document hanging in explorer (in My Documents) and it caused explorer to become slow, and hang at shutdown.

I tried moving the html document, but it said it could not be moved, it was being used by another person or process. I then changed folder view to tiles, instead of thumbnails, then move the offending html document into another subfolder(I had to restart explorer in Task Manager).
