Hi Mary, thank you so much for your suggestion, but I've tried this route and unfortunately, had no success.  Would you have any other remedies?

Thanks!  xp

How many processes are running?  It will say on the first line of Adaware when you start scanning.  If you have many, (I had 20) go to winpatrol.com and download winpatrol 7.0    After working with winpatrol, I now have one process working.

Some people has expressed some negatives with NAV 2004 but I can't be specific. Did the tech(s) have you clean out the restore points and run the System File Checker ? Might be a good place to start.

I tried system file checker and everything was ok.  The support tech advised that I need to repair my XP due to corrupt files.  I'll let you know if it works.

I hope my NAV 2004 is ok, I did have to reinstall it for a second time already!

Thanks for your note!

Hi Max and Mary, after contacting Dell Support another time after exhausting all options, we reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled the XP Operating system and all drivers and software.  Once this was done, I contacted my DSL provider who serviced our line.  After this was completed, our Dell is running nice and fast again!

Thanks for all of your suggestions!

You're a rookie no more. Make sure you get that firewall up right away and do your Windows updates. Way to go.

Hi Max, thanks for the promotion!

I also forgot to thank Bill for his advice.

I had the firewalls, etc. installed, and in fact as soon as I had everything going, I ran my Norton 2004 and it picked up a SPYBOT virus in System 32 (as well as a bunch of other viruses) which Norton could not fix. I had to turn off system restore, update my virus definitions, proceed to Safe Mode, and then run a full system scan.  Once this was completed, I was able to rid my PC of all that junk...

Thanks to all once again, as this was truly worth the experience!
