socket 10106 failed

I recently had a virus infection on my dimension 4500 and while i have been able to clean the virus, I now have an error coming up everytime I boot. The error is "Socket 10106 Failed", then I get no internet connection and my connection tracker shows that the connection is not activated.  I have tried to look at various sites for anwers, even here but to avail...

Please help me with finding a solution, I am running Windows XP.

Thanks

For a start disable your System Restore and reboot. Then run this command (to completion) from Start/Run:

sfc /scannow (note space in command)

Verify all your required Internet-related services are still running. Re-enable SR if you know your system is clean. Talk to your ISP and get him to walk you through setting up a new connection.

Note: If you are able to get up and running back up your important files, documents, settings, etc. ASAP.
