Software Driver

I work for a company that has about 35 Optiplex GX240s. I have inherited a mess of CD's that came with the systems that have not been kept in anyway organized. I have some floppys that are labeled
"Software Driver, CD
F3, 1"

In all the time I have called Dell Support, I have not been asked to use one. What are these? and do I need to have them?

We have about 600 of those systems.  The CD's and floppies may be useful to you if you ever plan to re-build a system from scratch.  I kept 4-5 copies of the CD's and tossed the rest.  One CD is the XP re-install CD.  One CD is the drivers CD & diagnostics.  This is useful to get a system running,  but once you get it up and on-line,  you want to get the latest drivers from teh Dell Downloads site anyway.  The floppy,  if I recall correctly,  is a DOS driver to the CD-ROM to allow you to make a boot disk thast can access the CD-ROM.

You might want to keep at least one of each around,  but other than that,  you don't "need" to keep them.  Keep in mind that if you don't keep an XP cd,  you may have to go buy another copy of XP if you need to get the CD for a re-install.  Dell generally won't sell you a CD,  especially if the system is out of warrantee.
