I'm not familiar with "flashreader", ect., but Roxio ECDC 5.2 may simply require an update for compatibility with XP, XP SP1, or XP SP2. I'm not entirely familiar with the compatibility nuances, but an update to v 5.3.x should do the trick.

This page offers updates for both Platinum and Basic versions of 5.x.x to 5.3.5, and I believe the recommended procedure is to install 5.x.x despite the warning from Windows and then run the update file, before running the application.

I am wondering if it is a compatibility issue with Windows MCE... I had thought at one point MCE would run anything XP Home would run, but found that not to be the case - I believe some Palm sync software does not work on XP MCE... But Roxio could also have issues, especially an older Version like 5.XXX (they are now on Version 8).... No to knock the Version 5.xxx, as I still use it myself....

And.. how were you able to use 5.2 on an XP machine? Everything I read said it wouldn't work, or at least not be very stable.....

I didn't know Roxio wouldn't work on XP, I've been burning CDs with it for 4 years.

Sorry, but I don't think you'll get it to work on MCE.....

After some research, here is what I found. Dell has a patch to fix compatibility problems with Windows XP. Read this:

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=161

However, the program does not officially run with Windows XP SP2, though many (like me) have been able to limp along using it...

From Roxio's web site....

Roxio EZCD 5 is NOT supported with WinXP and SP2. Up thru WinXP SP1, it can be coaxed to run. Basicly, with add/remove, uninstall any leftovers by using roxizap, install from disc (DO NOT REBOOT), add all updates (DO NOT REBOOT), add Driveup patch (if needed), then reboot. See the FREQUENT ANSWERS post for the Roxizap URLs.

Finally, other, newer, cd burning programs (Real PLayer, Windows Media Player, etc...) can disable Roxio ECDC 5.XX. I am guessing your Win XP MCE has at least one of the newer, built in, cd burning programs which is causing the conflict. Read this:

Even if it were to work on your MCE machine, drive support for that version ended in Dec. 2004 - meaning if your new drive is newer than that (and it definitely should be), Roxio 5.3XX won't support it anyway....

Doesn't XP MCE have a lot of the features you want built into the OS anyway?
