Sonic Activation Module

Hi,

from last week on, every time I start my pc enter the desktop screen, a windows installer screen pops up, which has to do with Sonic Activation Module. Firstly I don't have the cd of it, secondly I don't want this Sonic stuff on my pc. How can I stop this screen to pop up every time?

Thanks Paul,

I finally fixed this problem.  I too had uninstalled Corel Draw recently.  Then the Sonic Update Module keeping popping up so I unstalled the Update Module.  Then the Sonic Activation Module started popping up.  I thought it would never end!  I'm still not sure why the uninstall of Corel started it all but I'm glad to have a solution!

Same problem - Insert the Sonic Activation Module disk and click OK, use source 1. message.  - But I found another solution, i.e. to download and install Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from Microscoft.com. Problem solved!

Hello, So many Dell users have been struggling with this Sonic annoyance. Four people share this computer and they are not able to logoff. That's right. You can not logoff if you can not hit alt ctl delete and cancel the task. Do you think my daughter or my wife or son know how to do that? They don't know how to hit ctrl alt delete every time they want to use the computer. Basically, they feel this computer is trashed. The msconfig does not have the items checked - they no longer exist. The clean up utility has been run. However, no one has explained what the problem actually is. Dell is the owner of the Sonic software. Dell sent the software bundled on these computers and there is no way to undo it. That's the bottom line. I feel that Dell is culpable and should understand the degree of the problem and take responsibility for the packages they force on their public. And when unchecking some of the startup options one puts the configuration into debug mode and slows down the computer. Basically, where in the registry is this program? How can it be cleaned so that Sonic does not exist at all and is uninstalled properly during program uninstall? This is clearly a bug and Dell should give its customers some satisfaction and fix the problem. I've wasted so much time on this problem, I've restored so many backups, I've lost so many days of work and lost face with so many people because of this. Please help!!! Not one solution in all these posts work for me. I urge each and every one of you to demand Dell to fix this indignation. I have no idea where a Sonic CD is. Nor do I think I ever had one when I received this PC from the Dell outlet.

I have just had same problem and have used Paul's soluition but I like your alternative of downloading Windows installer update.  However having looked at the Microsoft site I was unsure which download exactly to apply.  Also there seemed to be some possible difficulties that might arise from the download.
I have also just aquired a new Dell laptop and have already uninstalled the Corel software but without any adverse effect, isuspm amd isssch are still in start up and enabled.  So has Dell ensured the problem is resolved?

Wotnot, I used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and in the MORE INFORMATION paragraph you find the link 'Dowlnload the Windows Installer Cleanup utility package now'. Hope this works for you OK.

And claytonjudah1, how DO you get through to DELL to complain or get them to respond to this problem?  Tell me if you know and I'll contact them too. They obviously don't read or take notice of their own Community Forum!

Thank you Brian I have run the download but it doesn't seem to work for me. I tried it with and without the isuspm and isssch files checked.  The latter unchecked does the trick but I am a little concerned whether there is an ancillarary effect, for example stopping automatic Windows updates.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating!  isuspm and isssch is gobbledegook  to me.  Best of luck.  Brian.

Thanks Paul!

I just googled "Sonic Activation Module" and found your post about how to get rid of this problem.  However, I found that I had to uncheck the box called "ISUSPM"...not "isupm"....

Thanks for the direction though....i had been having that stupid startup problem for weeks!

The thing that worked for me was the:

"Wotnot, I used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and in the MORE INFORMATION paragraph you find the link 'Download the Windows Installer Cleanup utility package now'. Hope this works for you OK."

Thanks to that poster !

Go here: http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q111006 and download the uninstaller. Run it and then the problem will be solved
