Sonic DLA - TFSWCTRL.EXE errors

I am experiencing errors when I log off an account "tfswctrl.exe - ending program, please wait" followed by "program not responding". I found out tfswctrl.exe is the Sonic DLA. Can I safely remove Sonic DLA and still be able to use Record Now to copy files to disk? I have a new 8400 and have never used the burner, so I don't know why this tfswctrl.exe is running anyway.

Also, does Creative SysVolume have anything to do with writing a disk (because when we clicked on that it didn't control the volume, created problems and I took it out of the systray) And Creative Service for CD is disabled in services. Should this be running, if so automatic or manual?

Thank you very much.

Sincerely, Libra

Don't know about Sonic DLA (don't have it). As far as Creative service for CDROM access, it's set to automatic by default, but that is not essential, see:

http://computercops.biz/startuplist-773.html

http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/winxp_services/print.shtml says:

"Creative Service for CDROM Access. This service is added during installation of Creative’s Disc Detector (Which is installed as part of Creative PlayCenter for Live! & Audigy Soundcards). Set this to Automatic if you have Disc Detector enabled, otherwise set this to Manual."

To enable/disable Disc detector from Creative Media Source Player, tools, detector tab.

The Sonic DLA is part of the (Sonic) Record Now CD burning software package.  The DLA program allows you to format CD's and DVD's for "drag and drop" or copying files using the Windows Explorer.  DLA is equivalent to Roxio's  "Direct CD" or Nero's "InCd".    You do not want to remove DLA, however, if you have installed another CD burning program and it's formatting program (e.g. Roxio's Direct CD or Drag to Disc as the new version calls it) you will have to uninstall one of them as there will conflicts and problems.

I think DLA 's startup option is set to load at startup.  You may want to delete that from startup (you can still use it when you want - just have to start it manually).  There may be an option in the Sonic software user options to remove it from the startup.

Another option would be to completely uninstall the Sonic/DLA programs, restart Windows and then do a fresh install.  That may correct the problem.  Make sure you have the Sonic Record Now/DLA restore CD before you uninstall it from your PC.

I seem to have cross-posted. I edited the other post, but it still remains. I am being told here that I can remove Sonic DLA and still use Record Now.
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=sw_other&message.id=41268

I haven't opened the Sonic Program, which has Create DVD>create VCD and start My DVD, and Record Now>Record Now. But in Explorer I went to Sonic DLA and found a help file. That says DLA is automatically set up, but you can use the recording program that is a part of XP instead (whatever that is) by going to My Computer, right clicking your burner drive, select properties and go to the DLA tab and unchecking "use DLA on this drive". Do you know if that would stop tfswctrl.exe from running? I notice in msconfig tfswctrl shows as being in Windows\system.

Thank you.

Sincerely, Libra

You can use the Windows XP built in CD burning, however it is limited to what it can do.  e.g. it can't format a CD-R.RW or a DVD.   The UDF formatting programs such as DLA, Direct CD, etc have more capabilities.

You can Uninstall the DLA feature, and if you ever need it you can reinstall it.    Your call.

Thank you. My only reason for wanting to remove it is because I have gotten those errors "tfswctrl.exe - ending program, please wait", followed by "not responding". I don't know why this is happening since I've never even used the program.

I haven't gotten the error since I posted about it, so I'll hold off.
