I'm just getting used to my Latitude D810 and I wanted to make an additional copy of a DVD that I own (i.e. Team America) so that I'll have one at both of my houses. When I try to use the DVD copy function, it tells me that the DVD is copy protected and then ejects it. Can I not make copies of copyright protected DVDs? I own it! Is there a way to get around this function or set the preferences to not give me that prompt and duplicate the DVD anyway?

If it's not possible to copy DVDs, I think that blows and this software (and to a greater extent this machine) become utterly useless to me as one of the reasons I paid so much for this machine was that I was under the impression that I'd be able to backup my DVD collection!

Getting to the point, please tell me how I can copy my DVD. If this software won't do it, which one will and does Dell sell that?

Thanks,
CheapSk8

Actually you don't own it, as you don't own the operating system.  You purchased just the one copy from the manufacture, and no more.  The owner's don't want people to copy it, and give or sell to other's, loosing money at their end because of it being copied.   You can complain all you want, but that's the way things are now.  Many are now going that rout to prevent those from stealing from the manufactures. Even though you won't sell or give it to someone else, and just use it on another system, the owner's don't know that you are one of the honest ones....

To add to the fact that most commercial DVD's are copy protected.  Many music CD's are now also copy protected.

By the way, you are now in violations of rule number 1 and 2 of the terms of service.  Look above this site for the link to " Terms of Service "  Than scroll down to the rules, and read.  You cannot do or ask anyone to violate the copy right laws, period, on this forum....:smileymad:

Well, I didn't know I was in violation of the rule, because I (like many) didn't read the "terms of service" thoroughly (nor any of the EULA agreements for that matter).
Now that I have been tried and convicted by a jury of my internet peers, does this mean I'll be soon banished from the dell forums forever? :smileyvery-happy:

Oh well...guess it's off to Apple!! :smileytongue:

Apple doesn't sell software to make illegal copies of your DVDs either.

I'm well aware that Apple doesn't sell software to make illegal copies of DVDs.
Apples are more user-friendly and generally "more awesome"!
Having encountered the number of problems I have with this new dell system, I've come to realize that I should have just stuck with Macs all along! :smileytongue:
Anyway, I know you guys love your dells, so I'll leave this topic alone.
Thanks for "answering" my initial question.

I fail to see the correlation between your initial question and what brand of PC.

If this was intended to be a "I love Apple" rant, you've also come to the wrong place.

He doesn't have to buy it. There are popular free public domain programs that do the job just fine.
