Sonic RecordNow Error Message

Sonic RecordNow error message causes the program to exit and sometimes keeps the CDRW drive from opening (or DVD, etc.). - I solved this problem.
I have searched through the threads in dells forums, and found others who have encountered this same problem, but with no solution.
Well, I figured it out on our laptop.
I had to update the CDRW/DVD ROM drive's firmware, and everything worked perfectly (it's a combo drive [CDRW/DVD]).
I hope this helps somebody!

When you say you had to update your driver's firmware, could you explain more clearly please?  I am having terrible problems with record now.  The first problem is if i copy a cd i cannot get it to play on my home/car stereo.  Also recently i've experienced the error with record now which results in me being unable to open the drive.  appreciate any help you could off, Thank you in advance, Claire

Clairel29, below are the instructions from my firmware update. Hope these things help.

To update the drive's firmware, I went to support.dell.com > Then clicked on Consumer - Home & Home Office > Then clicked on Downloads & Drivers from the right side > From there I entered the service tag (you can also use the Product Model) > From there I left the download category to "All"  and set the Operating System to Windows XP, language to English, then click submit > From there you need to find your specific burner (I think it will be listed under "Removable Media and Storage Devices") > From there you should be able to download the firmware update.

It runs as an executable application, and you have to restart your computer when you're finished.

Good Luck ;-)

I saw your post and since my DVD rom drive has been acting slow, I went to the Dell download sight to see if there was an update for the drive. I have the combo drive also, but two different makers. One is a Phillips, the RW, and the other is a Samsung. The Samsung was on the list, but not the Phillips. So I downloaded the firmware update, but after I was done I didn't get a message to reboot the machine, but having saw your post, I rebooted the machine anyway. Now I've got to update some of the other components. Time goes by so fast and I forget to update things like this. I also updated my monitor driver. Maybe that was why it was acting a little strange. Thanks for posting about your problem. It helped me. By the way, I hate Sonic Record Now. That is what I had on my computer until recently.

Oh, almost forgot. If you go to www.sonic.com, you can get updates there also. It seems that is where I updated Sonic the first time. It will list firmware under Downloads, but I assume it is the same version as Dell provides.
